Welcome!! I am so excited that we are going on this journey together. Which journey is that? I’m so glad you asked! The journey that moves us out from our comfort zones and into the unknown, into uncharted waters in search of our destinies. Anyone can sit around in the same comfortable mediocre place (I’ve done it for a while), but it takes a champion to step out in faith towards his destiny. And we, my friend, are champions.
This blog/newsletter is a huge step of faith for me and I am sooo excited that you have given me permission to share it with you. I have delayed doing this (and a number of other things) for several years and for several reasons (ahem, actually excuses). The main reason for me has been F E A R, plain and simple. Fear of what people will think. Fear of what they will say. Fear of putting myself out there too much. Fear of failing. Fear of succeeding.
A few years ago I released a song titled “Flip the Page” on ITunes and then I buried the song under a rock. Sure, I shared it with a few people, but that was pretty much it. I felt embarrassed that at my age I was writing songs like that (the song is an inspirational pop song, with a rap portion). I privately compared myself to other singer/songwriters and compared my songs with their songs and my voice with their voices, and I felt so inadequate. I actually asked God why I wasn’t writing songs like the ones that Cece Winans or Yolanda Adams sing.
But I now know that God gave me that song, just like He did all the other songs I’ve written. And He did not give them to me only for me to bury them or to operate in fear. Because fear takes our eyes off of what God has said He can do.
Sometimes God calls us to do things that seem as impossible as walking on water. We might be like Peter (in Matthew 14) and take those first few steps in faith. But then we suddenly become conscious that what we are doing previously seemed impossible, and our focus shifts (even just a little) from Jesus, and we begin to sink.
Has this ever happened to you? Is that your situation right now? What big step is God asking you to take? What situation does He want you to divert your eyes away from and shift your focus solely to Him…no matter how RIDICULOUS you may look to others? What dreams did He give you, which are currently buried or gathering dust on some shelf? No, it’s not too late. No you are not too old, and No your time has not passed. Yes, you CAN do it. “What if I fail?” you ask? Well, what if you succeed?
I don’t have to know your current exact situation to know that God has called you to great, great things. Things that only YOU can do in your own unique way. Write that book, start that business, take that ministry to another level. If you shift your focus from your fears or the winds and storms of life and back to Jesus, you CAN do the impossible. You CAN walk on water. Will you take the plunge? It’s your time and I’m here to cheer you on.
Allow me to leave you with these lyrics from the widely popular song titled “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” by Hillsong United. (If you have never heard this song (or if you want to listen again), click on this link https://youtu.be/dy9nwe9_xzw). Here are the lyrics:
You call me out upon the waters The great unknown where feet may fail And there I find You in the mystery In oceans deep My faith will stand And I will call upon Your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise My soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours and You are mine Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior
Let’s take that plunge! You take yours and I’ll take mine.
Much love, Emem
