Over 2000 years ago…
Good Friday. A day when it seemed that all was lost. That the bad guys had won. That evil had prevailed. But Jesus knew better.
Their voices were louder than His. “Crucify Him!” they shouted. “Hail, King of the Jews” they mocked. “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” They didn’t stop at verbal jabs either. There were painful physical jabs as well.
“It is finished” seemed to suggest that “He” was finished. But actions, as they say, speak louder than words. His actions would soon speak volumes. Sure, at that moment He was hanging on the cross. Sure, at that moment He was suffering a lot of pain.
To make sure He remained dead and buried, they secured the tomb. And put a guard in place. Finally! They had gotten rid of this threat to their sense of self-worth and importance…
A night passed. And another. His death seemed final. His defeat, a done deal. Life went on. Business as usual.
It seemed as if all was lost. But we know that was not where His story ended. If there was ever a #FlipThePage moment, it was here. It was now.
Ahhhhhhhhh…VICTORY! Not in a “gather-the-paparazzi-to-see-my-escape” kind of way. But it definitely was in a TRIUMPHANT way.
Word spread. Lies were told to cover up the fact that Jesus had indeed done what He said He would do. He had RISEN!
And because He rose, we can RISE! He got up so we could get up too!
Modern Day…
Every day, many of us live as shadows of our true selves, because of things that have been said TO us and ABOUT us. Because of things that have been DONE to us and STOLEN from us. Because of our past and, oftentimes, even our present.
That’s why I wrote my book, “Rise From the Shadows” (RISE, for short). RISE is for all of us who have dimmed our light, just so others would not feel threatened by our glow.
